If God doesn't exist, everything is permissible
-- Dostoyevskey
It seems logical and scientific to question the authority of God - especially when you see all the bad things happening in this world. "Is this the creation of the Almighty God?", you question. If it is, then the so called God is not perfect.
But man needs God. Science, logic and reason - they will lead you and guide you until a point. But what lies beyond that point? What lies behind logic? Even modern science agrees that at some point it is impossible to distinguish between matter and energy. Therefore, it is very difficult to understand and find something which is beyond space, time and matter. The logical person may argue that it doesn't matter what is beyond time, space and matter.
In my opinion, it is not important whether God exists or not. The big question is, "What is God?" Atheists say God doesn't exist. Isn't that what Buddha said to his followers? Buddha knew it is futile to spend life arguing the existence or non-existence of God. So he said it doesn't matter. You don't need God to achieve Nirvana. And he is right. The biggest challenge that we should deal with is ourselves - transformation of the Self, to live a life of purity and goodness, to find and be in peace, complete true peace. And that will set man free. I call this bottom-up approach. On the other hand there is top-down approach. We believe in God, offer prayers, cleanse our minds and live the life as Vivekananda said "Our hands to work and our mind to God" - karma without attachment. Let the Ahteists call it Nature, let believers call it God - what does it matter? The important thing is the experience - the experience of being One with the infinite energy, the infinite power, the infinite love.
Ancient people offered prayers to Fire, Water, Moon and the Sun. Why did they do that? Some people may term the offering of prayers as blind faith. But instead of analysing what it is, see what effect it brings to the one who is doing that. Even science agrees that the mind and body go through positive changes when we meditate. The acceptance of grandness and power of God makes us feel how petty our egos are. God destroys our little egos and doing that He gives us peace. Nothing is more important than this peace. And that's all there is to it. The root of all crimes, hatred, anger - it's our little egos. When this veil of maya, our little egos, is gone - we are at peace with ourselves and that's where true life begins.
Forget about the argument, think about the effect.
