The Hunter & The Hunted

This morning a friend of mine showed me the pictures of deers on her backyard. One small deer was jumping and there were two deer sitting by the tree. She said people love these deers and some feed them regularly. And it makes you think how some feed these animals and how some enjoy killing them - not even for food - but simply, for the sake of killing and for fun.

How true are these words that there is no Heaven and Hell! Heaven and Hell are here - right here in this world we live! Hell is the world of hate, cruelty and injustice and Heaven is the world of peace and prosperity. We like to talk about peace, world peace, prosperity - but how can we achieve that where there is so much hate, when there is no peace within ourselves? We seek fun, joy, fulfillment through hurting others - what can be more degrading than that?

Today hunting is this whole new sport. Not so long ago I saw a handicapped man on a wheelchair - assisted by these hunting professionals - pointing his gun at a deer. The deer was not even moving. Just sitting there enjoying his day. Then there was this sound and he was gone. The hunters jumped with joy, congratulated each others as if they just returned from the moon. It was actually funny to watch these people. What were they thinking? I guess they got a boost of their little egos by this crazy act. And I wonder how long did it last?

We talk about religion and faith. We talk about the Universal brotherhood. We talk about human rights. We go to churches and temples. Then we come home and live in the world of hate, selfishness and petty talk. We gulp down chunks of flesh - telling others how juicy and tasty it is. What kind of religion it is? As long as we enjoy someone else's flesh, there is no religion - no, it's not religion. An honest atheist is better than such people of faith.

All this cruelty and anger comes back to us one day - in the form of disease, sickness, pain and suffering - it all will be paid back with interest. And finally, one fine day, we, the hunters, become the hunted.
